Book a flight and open your mind; Värmland is a province where stories are born and people love to tell them. During your stay you’ll encounter legends, myths, fairy tales and fables, told and re-told during the course of history. We are considered to be a cheerful people, full of charm and wit. And you’d be out of luck trying to find a person born and raised in Värmland who couldn’t tell you at least one tale from their local area. One could even argue that our famous writers are just people who bothered to write our stories down.
Did you know that the first woman writer to win the Nobel Prize in Literature was from Värmland? Her name was Selma Lagerlöf and she won in 1909, for “the lofty idealism, vivid imagination and spiritual perception that characterize her writings”. Her family home in Mårbacka is still one of our greatest cultural attractions, but you’ll find many more.
What stories will you tell friends and family when you return home?
